Elysium Health Looks to Take Chunk out of $30 Billion Nutritional Supplement Market April 4, 2018

Co-founded by famed researcher Leonard Guarente, director of the Paul F. Glenn Center for the Biology of Aging Research at MIT, on the idea that a nutritional supplement company can be every bit as scientifically rigorous and careful as the largest drug manufacturers, Elysium Health is translating  advances in science and technology into effective, scientifically sound health products that work.

As one of the world’s leading research scientists in the aging field, Guarente has been at the forefront of significant  breakthroughs that have occurred. Yet, hardly any of the many fascinating things that scientists have learned over the years have been harnessed and applied to tangible consumer products.

One of the areas about which Guarente is enthusiastic is the large body of mounting evidence that has accumulated around a molecule known as NAD+. Short for nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, NAD+ is a critical component in energy creation, regulating circadian rhythms, and maintaining healthy DNA.

Now, Elysium Health is applying more than 25 years of aging science to  its first product, Basis. The supplement is clinically proven to safely increase and sustain  levels of NAD+ by an average of 40 percent in human subjects.

One bottle of  Basis costs $60, and it can be bought on the Elysium Health website. Elysium also offers monthly plans, which bring the cost down to between $40 and $50 per bottle.

Elysium Health Made Basis, A Leading Supplement November 14, 2017

Elysium Health is a leading manufacturer of supplements, its main product being Basis. While Elysium Health is led by industry-leading scientists and doctors, not everybody knows about Basis – so let’s dig in.

Nicotinamide riboside is one of the two key ingredients in Basis, the flagship supplement of Elysium Health. Nicotinamide riboside is an effective precursor to nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, a substance that naturally occurs in the human body.

What is NAD+, and how does it help humans?

NAD+, short form for nicotinamide adenine nucleotide, is found in the human body and helps facilitate regular bodily functions at the microscopic level. NAD+ has been proven to be found in humans who take Basis regularly in an average concentration of 40% higher than those who don’t take Basis every day.

Are there any other ingredients in Basis?

Basis has one other primary ingredient outside of nicotinamide riboside, the NAD+ precursor – pterostilbene.

Pterostilbene is, as it’s technically referred to as, a sirtuin activator. Sirtuins are proteins found in small organisms in human bodies that are necessary to promoting their longevity. Further, sirtuins only work when nicotinamide adenine nucleotide are immediately present.

How can consumers find Basis?

Basis currently isn’t found in any health food stores, or those that offer supplements to consumers. However, Basis can be purchased on the official website of Elysium Health. Consumers can purchase Basis by the bottle for $60 without committing to any regular subscription.

If consumers do purchase Basis on a monthly regimen, the supplement is only $50 per bottle of 60 capsules. When consumers sign up for a 6-month subscription, the supplement is purchased at the discounted sum of $270, making it come out to $45 per bottle of the revolutionary Basis.

Once consumers have been convinced of the proven benefits of Basis, they can save a 33% discount on its regular $60 price by paying just $40 per bottle across a 12-month period.

How has Basis been proven to work, if at all?

In 2017, Elysium Health put Basis through a clinical trial approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration. Few supplements are subjected to clinical trials because they’re so expensive. However, Elysium Health raised enough funding from General Catalyst, Sound Ventures, Morningside Ventures, and Breyer Capital. The funding allowed Elysium Health to conduct a double-blind, randomized, and placebo-controlled trial – the three characteristics that make clinical trials so conclusive – of which Elysium Health’s expected results were concluded.

Patients were given 250 mg of nicotinamide riboside and 50 mg of pterostilbene, twice this amount, or none at all. Those who took the recommended or twice-recommended dosage experienced a 40% rise in NAD+, on average.
