Meet Elisabeth Dee DeVos, or Betsy DeVos as she is more commonly referred to, who now is the newest Secretary of Education, a role that she earned with her claws and persistence.


She was born on January 8, 1958, and was a businesswoman before she decided to enter politics. She worked as an entrepreneur, leading businesses together with her husband and childhood friend, Richard “Dick” DeVos, who always dreamed of building a company of aviation and succeeded. Both have also tackled the green business sector, helping develop environment-friendly technology and habits.


Right now, the U.S. Secretary DeVos is a member of the Republican Party, and she is constantly fighting for what she calls the “Educational Choice,” where she raises awareness of the broken educational system in the U.S. and that it should be changed to provide quality education to a higher amount of U.S. citizens.


She is continuously visiting charter schools and programs that have the same goal of spreading the word for a better education system, like voucher programs, and her role as the Secretary of Education was earned because of her constant fight and her continually appearing in the spotlights.

Being considered one of the most prominent philanthropists of the United States and of those who advocate for education, Betsy DeVos, and Dick DeVos are considered the philanthropic couple who have changed many lives and are getting closer and closer to a more balanced and just education for their nation. Her fight for the school system is proved by her participation with the group Foundation for Excellence in Education and the institution Alliance for School Choice, where she is a member of the board of directors. Dick DeVos is the son of the co-founder of the Amway corporation, is the President of the Windquest Group, where his wife is also the Chairman of the company, and has already tried to run for the role of Governor of Michigan because of his reputation and eagerness to help his community, although he lost. Currently, he is ranked among the wealthiest people in the U.S., and is continually donating his money to noble causes like the All Children Matter PAC.
